Tanzania Information Directory

General Information
Spread out south of the Equator over an area half the size of Western Europe, Tanzania is a land of boundless fascination and diversity.
Tanzania is bordered to the east by the Indian Ocean and to the west by the deep lakes of the Western Rift Valley. It is in this country that some of Africa’s most beautiful come to life - snow-capped Kilimanjaro, rhinos silhouetted against the Ngorongoro Crater, wildebeests in the Serengeti Plains and white sands stroked by Indian Ocean breezes.
Much of Tanzania’s mainland consists of a central highland plateau cushioned between the eastern and western branches of the geological fault known as the Great Rift Valley.
Tanzania is known for its fairly harmonious and understated demeanour. In contrast to Kenya and other neighbours, tribal rivalries almost do not exist. Religious frictions are also minimal, with Christians and Muslims living side by side in moderate co-existence. Tanzanians are fastidious in their politeness and courtesy. They are offended if this is not reciprocated – greetings are essential.
